Wanting to start video broadcast storytelling in your program or at your school? We will get you ready to go and you’ll be off and running for the new school year! Already producing video stories and/or a broadcast show and want to take it to the next level? We will have advanced techniques work sessions for you as well!
We will study and practice shooting great b-roll coverage using a variety of creative film techniques, composing and shooting quality interviews utilizing correct framing, lighting and background, gathering quality natural sound, writing for broadcast including reporter stand-ups and voiceover scripts, and proper sequencing and precise editing to create a great video story. We will also practice how to build rapport and conduct solid on camera interviews that make the source comfortable and honor their story. We will give you a themed story challenge and you’ll will work in teams to plan, shoot, edit, and produce your own broadcast journalism story on the CU campus.
Students will develop the identity, brand, and vision for the upcoming year’s publication whether it be a tabloid-style newspaper, a glossy magazine, a website, or anything in between.
An emphasis will be placed on content and design elements in order to create publications that will make a difference to your student body. We will explore long-form journalism and short “quick-reads,” how to best utilize social media and websites, how to structure staffs and develop leadership, and how to create graphic designs like the pros. In the end, students will create several layout spreads that can be used as templates in the fall.
Students will set goals for the upcoming year, work on theme development, everything from visual elements to copy writing, ladder planning and leadership skills! Depending on how many students you bring to camp you will be able to complete more components to your book such as mods, and page layouts ensuring to keep all campers busy.
Campers will attend sessions geared towards their skill level but will come together in the afternoons to work as a staff on their upcoming years book. This training in invaluable and will get all staffers ready for the work that will happen as soon as you are back at school!
Your school will be assigned a counselor to ensure you are meeting your goals at camp and help provide you will the assistance you need to make sure you are having the most productive camp experience possible.
